About the Shepherd
Situated amidst the southern foothills of the Troodos mountain range, this region of Cyprus is unparalleled in its concentration of wineries. The villages are referred to collectively as “Krasochoria,” a term derived from the two Greek words for “wine” and “villages”; this nomenclature itself is illustrative of the region’s illustrious winemaking heritage.
The route is remarkable; a dry climate and distinctive geology produce wines of the highest quality, produced primarily from the indigenous grape varieties Xynisteri (white) and Mavro (red), with a few imported varieties also present (among a total of 23 varieties): Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Grenache, and Syrah.
Lemesos, Kolossi, Erimi (The Cyprus Wine Museum), Kantou, Souni-Zanakia, Pano Kivides, Agios Amvrosios, Lofou, Vouni, Koilani, Pera Pedi, Mandria, Kato Platres, Omodos, Vasa, Mallia, Arsos, Pachna, Anogyra, and Avdimou are all traversed along this scenic route.
